Daved van Stralen
Daved van Stralen, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Loma Linda, California and Adjunct Professor of EMS, Crafton Hills College, Yucaipa, California. He worked as an ambulance man and Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedic in South Los Angeles during the 1970s. By one review, he is the first career paramedic to attend medical school. He worked with another pediatric Intensivist, a Viet Nam combat veteran (Navy A-4 pilot), to create a High Reliability Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Later, he used this HRO model with a fire service/EMS model to develop a pediatric subacute care facility into a Chronic Intensive Care Facility. He also serves as Medical Director for Totally Kids Specialty Healthcare (San Bernardino, California), San Bernardino County Division of American Medical Response, Inc, and the San Bernardino County (CA) Fire Department. He developed the Emergency Medical Care Baccalaureate Program, Loma Linda University, as the first clinical/academic degree for EMS in the country. He earned his BA in Social Ecology and BS in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. He received his MD from UCI’s College of Medicine
